About Me
When gazing upon Kim’s collection of artwork one may come to notice a few reoccurring themes, but none so accentuated as that of boundaries. Her works focus from cultural boundaries, imposed by societal rules and expectations, delineating roles and behaviors in such matters as gender, relationships, families, and good vs evil, to actual physical borders that separate and isolate people, leading to poverty, violence and conflict.
Kim was born in the midwest but spend the majority of her childhood and teenage years in the southwest, close to the Mexican- American border. While she was growing up, travel between the two countries was welcome and safe, and often a stress- free experience, almost casual. She would often accompany her friends and family on daily excursions to Mexico and found herself inspired by the desert and mingling cultures, drawing constantly, her talents encouraged by teachers and loved ones alike.
When Kim was 18 she left her home state and settled for a few years in Arizona, before moving to Kentucky, then Texas and finally settling in southwestern, Ohio. Along the way she gain knowledge and experience as a fiber artist, a needlepoint artist, a mother and a wife, all while pursing her goal of art education. Through hard work and perseverance Kim graduated with honors with first a BFA from The Art Academy of Cincinnati and then a MFA degree in painting from The University of Cincinnati’s College of Art and Design.
